RFKT Season Overview
Many parents have been calling to find out how to get involved at RFKT and what's coming up in the next few months. In response, we have created our season overview to give everyone a sense of programs and dates through the summer. Although we may not have exact days/times or even show titles, this should at least allow you to plan ahead for things in which you know you'd like to become involved.
2010 FALL WORKSHOP (grades 3-5 and 5-8) and JELLYBEANS (grades K-2): Bye Bye Birdie
The fall Workshop and Jellybeans program meets once a week, culminating in a production for family and friends. Open to all levels. Everyone gets a part with speaking lines and a solo. Cast size is limited to 15 (Jellybeans) and 22 (Workshop). Rehearsals begin in September, with performances in November at The Tarrytown Music Hall. The Jellybeans meet Fridays or Saturdays; the Workshop meets Saturdays or Sundays. Additional workshop groups may also be added during the week, if the weekends fill. SUMMER MAINSTAGE AUDITIONS (elementary school, middle school, high school and college): tentative title: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
RFKT's summer Mainstage program auditions early - usually in February - so that those cast can make summer plans accordingly. Unlike the Workshop program, the Mainstage is by audition only. Four casts are assembled from the open call. No prior experience or participation in an RFKT program is required. If cast, rehearsals are in July (usually 5pm-9pm several days a week and every day the week of the show), with tech/performances the last weekend of July or the first weekend of August (depending on cast). Auditions are by appointment, followed by callbacks. A cast list is posted within a week. Audition sign-ups usually begin in January.
INDUSTRY SHOWCASE NIGHT (ages 5-18)
Every year, RFKT, in conjunction with Marc Tumminelli and The Broadway Workshop, presents a showcase in NYC for top youth agents, managers and casting directors. This is an excellent opportunity for kids and teens who are interested in pursuing theater, film or television professionally. There is no fee to audition or participate in this program. It is by audition only. Auditions for this year's showcase will be announced in early 2011 and will be held in both Elmsford and NYC. If selected for the showcase, there is one rehearsal in Elmsford in March and the showcase is in NYC several days later. Past showcases have proven a terrific way for kids to get exposure to NYC industry, and many past participants are currently performing on Broadway, in film, television, commercials, or were introduced to their agent or manager through this program.
SPRING WORKSHOP (grades 3-5 & 5-8) and JELLYBEANS (grades K-2): tentative title: 101 Dalmatians
The spring Workshop and Jellybeans program meets once a week, culminating in a production for family and friends. Open to all levels. Everyone gets a part with speaking lines and a solo. Cast size is limited to 15 (Jellybeans) and 22 (Workshop). Rehearsals begin in April, with performances in June at The Tarrytown Music Hall. The Jellybeans meet Fridays or Saturdays; the Workshop meets Saturdays or Sundays. Registration usually begins in January.
SPRING EDGE PRODUCTION (grades 9 through college): show title TBA
The Edge is RFKT's company for high school and college students. Auditions are open to young people in grades 9 through college, regardless of whether you are part of the company. Auditions are usually held in March. Rehearsals begin in March (1, 2 or 3 days a week, depending on the show), with tech/performances in late April or early May at The Tarrytown Music Hall.
EDGE COMPANY AUDITIONS (rising 9th graders - college)
The Edge is RFKT's company for high school and college students. Membership in the company is by audition only. Auditions are open to students in 9th grade through college (including current eighth graders). Membership in the company guarantees you a role in all Edge productions. Members also help to choose shows and can get involved behind the scenes in an artistic or technical capacity. Auditions for the 2011-2012 company will be held in the Spring.
AUDITIONS FOR RANDOM FARMS ON TOUR: The New Kid
The New Kid is a one-hour musical about bullying, peer pressure, cliques and standing up for what you believe in. Several rotating cast of middle-school students tour to local elementary and middle schools from October through May. Rehearsals are held several nights a week in September and October. If chosen, there is no fee to participate in this program. Cast members must be able to miss one to two mornings of school per month, and parents need to be able to drive their children to the venues, located within 1 hour of central Westchester.
ANNUAL GALA
The gala is a terrific way to celebrate the end of the school year with all your friends from RFKT! The date and location of the 2011 gala is TBA. Once it's announced, make sure to mark your calendars, as this fun-filled night of eating, drinking, dancing and silent auctions is always a hit with kids and parents alike. Proceeds benefit RFKT's upcoming season and help to provide scholarships for the upcoming school year. The recipient of the Allana Calder Memorial Scholarship is also announced at the gala. RSVP information will be announced in our e-newsletter and details will be posted at www.randomfarms.com/fundraiser.html.
SUMMER WORKSHOP INTENSIVES (entering grades 2-4 & 5-8): show titles TBA
RFKT's intensives are a fun way to spend a week during the summer. The program runs in one-week cycles throughout the summer, every day from 9am-3pm. Kids spend the day rehearsing for a show, taking dance class and having "specials" like Auditioning for TV Commercials, Improv, Poster Design and more. At the end of the week, a performance of a musical is presented at The Tarrytown Music Hall. Open to all levels. Registration begins in January (enroll before March and save 10%). One-week sessions are typically offered at the beginning of July and the end of August (except for role placement, which is held in June).
